Chao-Jun Li

Chao-Jun Li (born in 1963) received his B.Sc. at Zhengzhou University (1983), MS at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing (1988) and Ph.D. (with honors) at McGill University (1992).He spent 1992-94 as a NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University (US), and was an Assistant Professor (1994), Associate Professor (1998) and Full Professor (2000) at Tulane University (US). Since 2003, he has been a Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Green Chemistry. His current research efforts are to develop Green Chemistry for organic synthesis and explore chemical reactivities. Well-known research include the development of a wide range of Grignard-type reactions in water, transition-metal catalysis in air and water, alkyne-aldehyde-amine coupling (A3-coupling),asymmetric aldehyde-alkyne-amine (AA3-coupling) coupling reactions, and cross-dehydrogenative-coupling (CDC) reactions among others.

He serves as the full professor at Department of Chemistry and FQRNT Center for Green Chemistry and Catalysis of McGill University, currently. He also serves as the Associate Editor for the Americas for the journal of Green Chemistry (RSC) since 2005. He have published more than 360 scientific paper and 7 books. His research has received extensive attention and been cited widely in the literature (>22,500 times, h-index=77). He received a number of prestigious awards/honors worldwide, such as the US National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award (1997), a Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award by the US EPA (2001), the Canadian Green Chemistry and Engineering Award (2010). He was elected the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (Senior) Fellow (2002), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK, 2007), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (Academy of Science) (2012), etc. His research was featured as one of the top 20 Canadian Chemistry Discoveries in the past century by Canadian Chemical News in 2007.
