Professor Masatake Haruta is an internationally recognized scientist in heterogeneous catalysis. He is a fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry and a foreign member of Academia Europaea. He received Catalysis Society of Japan Award (Science) in 2002, Chemical Society of Japan Award in 2010, Spiers Memorial Award of Royal Society of Chemistry in 2011, and Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates in 2012. Currently, he is a full professor in Tokyo Metropolitan University, a senior international scientist of CAS, and the director of DICP gold catalysis research center.

Professor Haruta first reported that 2-5nm gold nanoparticles could efficiently catalyze low-temperature CO oxidation when they were deposited on base metal oxides. The pioneering research work was published in Chemistry Letters and Journal of Catalysis and these papers have been cited about 4000 times. Professor Haruta has made great achievements in inventing preparation methods for nano-gold catalysts, establishing perimeter interface concept in catalysis and exploring new reactions by using gold catalysts. Professor Haruta has already published more than 300 papers in Nature, Science, Nature Materials, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc. and etc.. The total citations have exceeded 20,000 times.
